How Invisalign works
A scan of your teeth is used to plan the whole movement, from where they sit now to where they should end up. That plan is divided into a series of clear plastic aligners, each one slightly different from the last, so wearing them in order moves the teeth a little at a time.
Wearing them
A set is worn for a week or two, around twenty-two hours a day. They come out to eat and to brush, which is why nothing has to come off the menu and why cleaning your teeth is no harder than usual. The other side of that is simple enough: they only work while they are in.
What it can and cannot correct
Crowding, spacing and many bite problems. More complicated bite corrections are still better treated with fixed braces, and Dr. Truong will say so if that is what he thinks.
Afterwards
Teeth drift back toward where they started if nothing holds them there. A retainer keeps the result, and it is part of the treatment rather than an extra at the end.
