What a bridge is
One or more false teeth held in place by crowns on the teeth either side of the gap. It is cemented in, so it does not come out for cleaning the way a partial denture does.
Why a gap is worth filling
Teeth lean into a space next to them, and the tooth above or below the gap drifts down into it. Over a few years that changes how the bite meets and puts uneven load on the teeth that are left. Filling the gap stops the drift before it starts.
What happens at your appointment
Two visits, much like a crown. The supporting teeth are prepared and measured at the first, with a temporary bridge fitted, and the finished bridge is cemented at the second.
Bridge or implant
A bridge leans on the teeth either side, which have to be shaped down to take the crowns. An implant stands on its own and leaves those teeth untouched, but it takes longer and needs enough bone to sit in. Dr. Truong will talk through which suits your case.
